(click on the links) – Pueblo and points south of Denver had a very rich tradition in ‘Garage’ bands – via a tight knit community. My listings under “Colorado Musician Index” contain many links to Lisa Wheeler’s excellent blog sites: “Pueblo City Limits”and “North of Pueblo” where informative stories about many of these groups along with interviews and photos are presented. Colorado Garage Collageīelow is an alphabetical listing of all known (by me) vintage 1950’s and 1960’s ‘Garage’ groups from our fine State! Known members are listed – Several of these bands have more comprehensive information including cross references to other bands in which they played are presented below the header tab “Colorado Local” then via sub tabs under “Colorado Musician Index”. That was the final time I believe that the Con Men performed – Charles – Paul – Alex and Fred…. ![]() God I hope they were wearing shades! After some time spent getting into position it was “One, two, three” and I am betting it was “Louie Louie” being belted out. “Ladies and gentlemen – presenting the fabulous Con Men!” They filed out in single file – serious looks on their faces – not really making eye contact – all wearing black turtle necks and I want to say shades. No one had yet seen these guys play or perform – This was their maiden voyage. There was certainly some theatrical drama in the moment – as the band in the back room had remained out of sight during the entire first hour or so of the party – in keeping with a proper garage band debut – maintaining the mystery. I think I received the album as a birthday present in December. It was time to turn off the 45 rpm record player (as I recall we had all been dancing to a Temptations’ LP – their “Greatest Hits” album which came out in late 1966. ![]() Tucked away in a back bedroom were four of our fellow teens anxiously awaiting for their cue from – I believe it might have been a girlfriend – not sure. We were playing records and biding our time – waiting for the ‘big moment’. ![]() There were probably about 30-40 former classmates and friends scatter about the living room of the home. In the summer of 1967 between the time I graduated from Denver West High and was attending college in Fort Collins, I was at a party in the west Denver Barnum neighborhood.
